Customized Training and Technical Assistance Grant

Lexington Park, MD--United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Maryland, Inc.; The Center for Life Enrichment, Inc. and Abilities Network, Inc. in collaboration with St. Mary’s County Government are pleased to announce the award of the grant entitled Employment: Customized Training and Technical Assistance through the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council.

The Customized Training and Technical Assistance Grant provides training, technical assistance and the facilitation of collaboration between United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Maryland, Inc.; The Center for Life Enrichment, Inc.; Abilities Network, Inc. and St. Mary’s County Government to increase opportunities for integrated employment for persons with significant disabilities.

The Customized Training and Technical Assistance trainings are being given through TransCen, a national expert and leader in customized employment methodology. The grant involves class room and in-the-field training to cover job development, working with potential employers, selling, job carving, job building skills, techniques and maintaining connections and creating solutions for barriers to employment. There will be a particular emphasis placed on working with county government, defense contractors and Patuxent Naval Base. St. Mary’s County Government will provide facilities for the training in the St. Mary’s County Governmental Center.

Support for this project came from the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (CFDA 93.768) of $16,495 was awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Maryland Department of Disabilities, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Developmental Disabilities Administration and the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, authorized by Public Law 106-402, the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 (CFDA 93.639).
